How to Have a Moving/Typing Tab Bar on Your Tumblr Profile

Tumblr allows you to customize your profile by changing the way the title appears at the top of your browser tab. If you want to put a moving/typing tab bar on your Tumblr profile, simply follow these instructions. Although this process involves a little bit of basic HTML, the process is very easy and can be completed by beginners in a matter of minutes.
  1. 1
Sign up or log in to Tumblr.
  2. 2
Hit the "Settings" icon at the top-right of your homepage.
  3. 3
Click on the blog you want to customize.
  4. 4
Click the "Customize" button in the middle of the dashboard.
  5. 5
Click the "Edit HTML" button on the far left tab.
  6. 6
Look for the code "<head>". This is at the top of every theme and should be right underneath "<html>."
  7. 7
Under "<head>", copy and paste the following code:

    <script type="text/javascript">function tb8_makeArray(n){this.length = n;return this.length;}tb8_messages = new tb8_makeArray(3);tb8_messages[0] = "INSERT WORDS HERE";tb8_messages[1] = "INSERT WORDS HERE";tb8_messages[2] = "INSERT WORDS HERE";tb8_rptType = 'infinite';tb8_rptNbr = 5;tb8_speed = 100;tb8_delay = 2000;var tb8_counter=1;var tb8_currMsg=0;var tb8_tekst ="";var tb8_i=0;var tb8_TID = null;function tb8_pisi(){tb8_tekst = tb8_tekst + tb8_messages[tb8_currMsg].substring(tb8_i, tb8_i+1);document.title = tb8_tekst;tb8_sp=tb8_speed;tb8_i++;if (tb8_i==tb8_messages[tb8_currMsg].length){tb8_currMsg++; tb8_i=0; tb8_tekst="";tb8_sp=tb8_delay;}if (tb8_currMsg == tb8_messages.length){if ((tb8_rptType == 'finite') && (tb8_counter==tb8_rptNbr)){clearTimeout(tb8_TID);return;}tb8_counter++;tb8_currMsg = 0;}tb8_TID = setTimeout("tb8_pisi()", tb8_sp);}tb8_pisi()</script>

    • Don't worry if you don't know HTML. The hardest thing you're going to have to do here is copy and paste. It looks complicated but it's really not.
  8. 8
Make sure your code looks like this. There should be one empty line before the script begins and one empty line after it ends.
  9. 9
Where it says "INSERT WORDS HERE", insert any word/phrase/sentence you like.
    • For each "INSERT WORDS HERE", you will be able to write a different tagline.
    • If your tagline is too long, it will only show at the top of your browser, not on the browser tab itself.
    • This text only shows when you or someone else visits your Tumblr profile; it won't affect your internet or browsing.
  10. 10
Click on "Update Preview," top right.
  11. 11
Click on "Save" after you are satisfied with your taglines.
  12. 12
    Admire your new handiwork.
