Discover the Amazing Benefits of Creating Handmade Crafts

Crafting has always been a popular hobby for millions of people. If you want to start a new hobby or teach creative activities for children, making beautiful crafts from different materials is a nice option. You do not have to be an artist or an exceptionally gifted person to make handmade crafts. As long as you have the right motivation, talent, and a bit of patience, you can become a crafts master in no time.

Although many people consider crafts making as a hobby, you can actually get more benefits from this kind of activity. So here are some of the most amazing benefits you can enjoy from creating hand crafted items.

Creating Handmade Crafts Can Soothe Your Senses

You probably know already that some people create works of art to fight stress. They usually paint, sketch, or sculpt. Others resort to woodworking, origami making, or metal crafting when they want to relax. Like these activities, crafting can help your mind and body to relax. The process of creating something beautiful from scratch can effectively take your mind away from your problems. So if you want to soothe your senses and forget stressful thoughts, try making hand crafted works of art today.

Crafting is Cheap and Easy

As mentioned earlier, almost everyone can become a crafts master. It only takes a little bit of creativity to make something special out of the ordinary things you see everyday. This hobby does not really require expert skills. As long as you are properly motivated, you will be able to create different crafts that you can be proud of. But the best thing about handmade crafts is the fact that they are very cheap to produce. In fact, you can just use recycled items, junk items, and discarded things. There is no need for you to buy expensive art materials and tools.

Crafts are Perfect Personalized Gifts

Today, it is very tempting to give gifts that you have bought from novelty shops. Sometimes, you really do not think much about giving personalized gifts. You simply get something off the shelf, wrap it, and send it your friend or relative. Gift giving, however, should have a special meaning. There is a need to personalize the things you send to the special persons in your life. Handmade crafts are your perfect solution. If you personally create something truly special, your loved ones and friends will remember you for your thoughtfulness.

Making Money from Crafts

Did you know that you can make a stable side income from craft making? If you have perfected your techniques, you can easily sell your creations to make extra money. In fact, some people have established their own personalized crafts businesses and they are making a steady income. There are many ways to can sell your creations. You can join local arts and crafts fairs and display your creations for everyone to see. These fairs will allow you to sell your items. You can also sell handmade creations online. There are websites that provide income opportunities for crafts makers.

Twitter can be a fun way to promote your handmade products

Twitter is a platform for sending short messages (140 characters) out to people who 'follow' you. You can use Twitter to build relationships with other people who share your interests and promote your handmade business. This lens is all about how to use Twitter to promote yourself and your work, have fun doing it, and not being spammy.
Twitter lets you build relationships between you and the people who follow you. You can let them know more about yourself and your business and get feedback from other people who also sell their handmade goods.

How to make your profile more distinctive.1: Pick a name related to your business, if at all possible use your business name.
2: Make your full name visible. Face it, if you're running a business people need to know your name and trying to be totally anonymous online will probably hurt your business.
3: You only have 160 characters for your bio, make it good. Don't just say you're name, tell at least a little about what your create too.4: Don't forget to add your website. This could be your Misi shop but if you have a blog or other website you should use that also. Twitter is about building relationships so it's better to send people visiting your profile to a site that says more about you than directly to your store.

Announce when new products are listed. If you've just listed one item post a direct link to it but if you are listing more than 2 or 3 items in a day wait until you're finished for the day then announce with a link to your shop.
2: Announce sales and promotions. If you're having a sale announce it once or twice during the day, not every few minutes or every hour. You don't want to flood your followers.

Here are the type of people you want to follow for promotion (other than personal friends, family, or celebrities, of course follow them if you want but that's for fun not business). Find them by browsing forums you frequent, blogs, and using the twitter search. Also make sure you check out the profiles of people who follow you and follow them back if they look interesting. I wouldn't recommend auto-following everyone who follows you, there are spammers on twitter and you don't want to get flooded with spam posts.1) People who also sell handmade products. Even if they aren't in the same niche as you.
2) People interested in your niche

Cute Valentine Crafts - Touch the Heart of Your Loved One

www.misi.co.uk

Valentine's Day is the most awaited day for people in love. People spend a fortune in buying expensive gifts and going for fancy candle light dinners. But if you really want to show your romantic side then cute valentine crafts are best ways to express your love. It is not necessary to spend lavishly on gift items to show your love and concern, but a simple gift with personal touch can say a lot more. If this Valentine's Day you want to go an extra mile and do some efforts for your beloved then try some special artifacts. Make it more special with the personalized message.

Initially it may look quite tricky to make cute valentine crafts, but some simple guidelines and little bit of effort can make things lot simpler for you. Heart shaped pillows or cushions for your darling would make a great present on Valentine's Day. Dark red colored cushion of velvet will be adored by your sweetheart. Make a Valentine's Day card and decorate it with colorful papers and glitters. Write a personalized poem or a message expressing your deepest thoughts and impress your darling with your creativity. For that special woman of your life, make a jewelry box of cardboard and decorate it with colorful papers and other craft items. Making a scrapbook is easiest of its kind and creates a special emotional bond between the lovers. Paste some personal pictures of yours with personal sentiments, such as "Ten Things I Love about You," "My Favorite Memories of the Past Year" or "You're My Perfect Valentine because...".

Make this Valentine's Day a special one for you that will always make you cherish the moments associated with it in the years to come. Make romantic craft items for your love and present it in a special way on Valentine's Day.

Featured MISI Crafter - Minerva

Our talented MISI maker today is Minerva with her shop DemeCrafts:

What is your shop's name and how did you decide on it?
My shop’s name is DemeCrafts.  The word ‘crafts’ is quite common and at first I didn’t want to use it, but I went for it as I can knit, cross stitch and crochet.  I spend more time knitting nowadays, but I might be adding cross stitch and crochet in my shop in the future.  So ‘crafts’ would capture all three forms.  As for ‘Deme’ is short for a word I like and is relevant to my work.

How did you get started in your particular craft and how long have you been doing it?
My grandmother taught me knitting, cross stitching and crocheting at a very young age.  I’m pretty sure I was about 6 years old when I did my first cross stitch, which I still have.  I have spent about 30 years cross stitching (on and off) and still do when time permits.
Even though I hadn’t knitted for several years, I still remembered the basics and got into it again in 2005.  Apart from a couple of lace knitting stitches a nice lady showed me, I learned everything else on my own through countless mistakes and hours of practicing.  I’ll never forget unravelling entire scarves, which had already taken me many hours to make, to reknit them better.
As for crochet, it’s something I would like to improve in the future when I get a chance.

Are there any negative aspects to doing your craft and if there are how do you work around them?
What I would call a negative aspect of doing crafts, knitting in particular, is when others copy your work.  We are in a creative business and we all need to create from our own imagination and try to make our work as unique as possible to appeal to our buyers, our target market.
Those who copy do not give themselves a chance to discover where their own imagination can take them and how unique and talented they can be. I do believe fortune favours the brave, so I try to focus on myself and my work and create patterns from ideas that come to me even at the oddest times, like when I wake up in the morning or when I’m grocery shopping.  However, as my original patterns are copyrighted, if need may be, I will not hesitate to take the necessary action to protect my work.

What tips would you give to anyone thinking of starting your craft?
If you start it as a hobby, then it would be to just have fun with it.  Being involved in crafts, such as knitting, has a lot of benefits, even therapeutic benefits.  It’s great for relaxation of the mind, like yoga, and as a creative outlet.
If you are starting this as full-time job, be prepared for the amount of time and effort you need to put in.  It’s like any other full-time job.  I actually work longer hours now than I did in my previous office job, but I enjoy every minute of it.  And keep on top of the finance/business part of the job too!

How did you find Misi?
I found out about Misi from literature I was given at my local Business Gateway office.

What is your favourite item in your own Misi shop?
So far, if I can call one item my ‘favourite’, it would be my Fashionable scarf, mohair and silk neck accessory.
The yarn is the finest yarn I have ever worked with.  It’s challenging to knit with but at the same time so luxurious and the end result so rewarding. It also happens to be the yarn I used to try lace knitting for the very first time.

What is your favourite shop on Misi (besides your own)?
I am back to my Misi shop after a few months of break so I haven’t had the chance to have a proper look around yet.  However, there is one shop that has caught my attention, called CaractacusPots.  Pottery always catches my eye, especially small and useful things for the home.  They remind me of my grandmother’s small ceramics in the kitchen.  I also like the blue color in pottery and Caractacus Pots has lots of that.

Random Facts about you:

What is your favourite season and why?
It would have to be the summer since the weather is warmer and swimming in the sea is irresistible.  However, I like all seasons for the charm each one has.  Autumn: for the gorgeous warm colors everywhere.  Winter: for the snow and the cosy days in.  Spring: for the green and life that starts to appear.

What is your favourite food?
My favourite dish is spaghetti with meat sauce, similar to bolognese but different recipe.

How many DVDs do you have?
Oh many!  I love watching movies, especially witty comedies.

What is your favourite animal?
A ladybird

What actor/actress would you NOT kick out of bed?
My favourite actor/actress are:  Robert De Niro, Jack Nicholson, Dustin Hoffman and Meryl  Streep.
I would let them sleep on my couch, but I’m too selfish when it comes to my bed!

Thank you for chatting with us, Minerva.
Stop by her shop on MISI for more gorgeous items.
